Things to do
Hartington is an attractive Derbyshire village centred on a pond and market place. The village has a selection of shops, as well as a friendly pub, and is set in some of the most beautiful countryside in the region.
There are walks into Dovedale, via Beresford Dale, from the village and you are very close to the Tissington Trail (the former Hartington Station is about a mile outside the village on the road to Newhaven), which goes from Hurdlow to the north, down to Ashbourne to the south. At Hulme End you can explore the Manifold Valley (a former narrow gauge railway), which goes down to Waterhouses.
There are also country houses and historic villages to visit, and a wide range of attractions and things to do when you stay at the Charles Cotton:
Buxton Spa
Beresford Dale
Blue John Cavern
Carsington Water
Chatsworth
Churnet Valley Railway
Cromford Mill
Derwent Dams
English Heritage
Haddon Hall
High Peak Trail
Monsal Trail
National Trust

Fishing
We are delighted to be part of the ‘Peak Passport’ angling scheme, which is operated by the Trent Rivers Trust and includes the Dove and Manifold rivers, where anglers can fish for the native brown trout. The Trust also works to improve access for anglers.
We are pleased that our beat on the River Manifold, at Hulme End Bridge, is now included in this scheme, along with nine other beats not far from the hotel.
We can also arrange exclusive fishing with the Beresford Fishery on the River Dove, which is where Sir Izaak Walton and Charles Cotton fished over 350 years ago.
